Every animal has a story. For animals who have been (or are being) abused, it is up to us to pay attention to the clues and signs so that we can recognize and end the abuse. Everyone can play a role in helping. Animal abuse can come in the form of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, organized abuse (e.g. dog fighting, cock fighting), and ritualistic abuse. If you know or suspect an animal is a victim of animal abuse, speak up by contacting your local law enforcement agency or animal control agency. In North Carolina you can also contact the North Carolina Attorney General's Animal Welfare Hotline. Other states may have similar reporting methods. The National Link Coalition also has a searchable web page for reporting information by state.
